Lip Enhancement

Lip augmentation can create fuller lips, help correct an uneven smile, and reduce fine lines around your mouth. Lips which have lost their plumpness with age can be rejuvenated, and lips which are naturally thin can be enhanced. There are a variety of injectable fillers which can be used to create temporary augmentation, fat injections can be transferred from another part of the body, and longer lasting implants can create permanent fullness.

Injectable Fillers

There are many types of injectable fillers that will plump your lips for about three months up to a year, depending on the type of natural or synthetic biocompatible material used. Although the injections may need to be repeated periodically, many women choose to use this temporary and less costly option to experiment with different levels of fullness before moving on to more permanent augmentation.

Lip augmentation with injectable fillers is a quick and effective procedure. It is a popular “lunch hour” procedure as patients can often return to normal activities immediately.

Fat Injections

Fat injections can permanently enhance your lips. With fat transfer, the tissue is harvested from your own body, so there is no risk of rejection or allergic reaction. The degree of improvement can be less predictable with fat transfer compared to other methods of augmentation, as some of the injected fat will be absorbed by your body or create scar tissue. It can take several sessions to reach the fullness you desire. Overall, fat injections are more permanent than injectable fillers and they use your own body tissue for the augmentation.

Lip Implants

A variety of soft, pliable, natural-feeling synthetic lip implants are available for permanent lip augmentation.  They are inserted through tiny incisions inside the corners of the mouth. AlloDerm is another implant option for lip augmentation.  AlloDerm is a human dermal implant that was initially used for burn patients and is now also used to naturally enhance and rejuvenate thin or aging lip tissue. 

Lip augmentation can be performed in combination with other facial procedures, such as BOTOX® injections, facial reshaping, or facial rejuvenation procedures.
