Brow Lift
A brow lift (forehead lift) elevates and smoothes the forehead and eyebrow region. This opens up the area around your eyes, revealing a more youthful, bright appearance. Drooping brows, worry lines and frown lines are a normal part of aging, and a low or heavy brow is often the result of genetics. Sun exposure, smoking and repetitive facial expressions can crease your forehead at a relatively early age, making you look far older and more tired than you really are.
Types of Brow Lift:
- Coronal
- Hairline
- Endoscopic
- Direct and indirect
Brow Lift Procedures
During a coronal brow lift, an incision is made across the top of the scalp, beginning at the top of the ears. This is hidden within the hair, and the procedure will move the hairline back slightly. A small strip of scalp is removed and the incision is closed, tightening the skin, smoothing out wrinkles and lifting the brows. During a hairline brow lift, the same procedure is performed except the incision is camouflaged at the junction of the forehead and hairline. This is best for patients who have a high forehead.
An endoscopic brow lift involves several small incisions. A tiny camera, called an endoscope, is inserted to facilitate the procedure and allow the surgeon to see all the internal structures. The soft tissue and muscles are mobilized, the excess scalp is pulled back and attached in its new position with the help of sutures, small screws or tines. During this procedure, the muscles which cause the vertical creases in between your eyes can be dissected and removed carefully, resulting in a permanent reduction in wrinkles.
A direct or indirect brow lift is sometimes performed as an alternative, particularly in men who have male-pattern baldness and do not have hair to hide the incisions. This type of lift is performed through incisions just above the eyebrows or within a deep horizontal crease on the forehead, both of which can hide the scars well.
A brow lift can be performed as an isolated procedure, but it is commonly performed with eyelid surgery or a facelift and necklift for a more complete rejuvenating effect.
During your consultation, we will discuss your personal goals and I will evaluate the current condition of your skin and underlying facial structure. In some cases, a brow lift actually opens up the eye area enough that the need for eyelid surgery is eliminated.
The results of a brow lift can last may years. You can help maintain the results by taking good care of your skin and general health, and staying out of the sun. Some patients also have BOTOX® injections as a supplemental preventative measure, reducing the accumulation of new lines over time.
