Breast Correction
Sandpoint, Hayden, Coeur d’Alene and North Idaho
You may be unhappy with the look or shape of your breasts for reasons which are not addressed by standard cosmetic procedures. Breast problems can be naturally-occurring or they can be the result of previous surgery or injury. As a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, I can help correct breast deformities to improve the appearance of your breasts.
Nipples and areolas
The size and shape of your nipples and areolas can be changed with corrective surgery. While not life-threatening, nipple and areola abnormalities can affect the way you feel about yourself. The procedures are relatively simple and can be performed under local anesthesia with a short recovery time, yet the improvement in self-esteem can be significant. Common nipple and areola abnormalities that I can correct for you include:
- Inverted nipples
- Enlarged or excessively long nipples
- Enlarged or abnormally shaped areolas
Congenital ptosis
Ptosis is a term for sagging breasts. Often, the nipple-areola complex is positioned low on the breast mound. Over time, gravity, childbirth, weight fluctuations and other events can cause your breasts to sag. However, some women’s breasts can appear droopy without these factors, simply due to their inherent shape which was present since the time of breast development. Depending on the shape and size of the breasts, a breast lift or a combined lift-augmentation may be needed to create more beautiful, natural-appearing breasts.
Tuberous deformity
Tuberous breasts are a developmental condition that can cause women to have significant embarrassment about the shape of their bodies. Tuberous breasts often have a very narrow base and are set high and wide on the chest, and there is not adequate distance between the nipple and the inframammary crease (the fold under the breast). This can result in very small or long, tube-shaped breasts. The areolas may appear puffy and oversized. The degree of severity can vary between the right and left breast, or only occur on one side. In some cases, more than one surgery will be required to correct this condition.
Breast asymmetry
No two breasts are exactly the same, and mild asymmetry can be corrected with breast augmentation, reduction, or a lift. Breasts which are radically different in shape and/or size may require more complicated procedures and definitely require carefully planned, customized surgery. You may need any combination of breast reduction, lift, augmentation, nipple or areola surgery, or subsequent revision surgery to make your breasts appear more symmetric. It is often necessary to perform more than one surgery to achieve the best possible result, but most patients believe it is worth it to reach the final goal of beautiful, symmetric breasts.
